Free Download: Wayne Horvitz & The Westerlies

Wayne Horvitz promoComposer & pianist Wayne Horvitz is offering a free download of each of the tracks covered by The Westerlies on their new release Wish the Children Would Come On Home: The Music of Wayne Horvitz.

That’s eleven tracks from Horvitz’s wonderful discography, comprised of a varied group of projects, some of which I’ve written about previously on this site, and with more to come.

A quartet of two trombones and two trumpets, the Westerlies do a remarkable job of capturing the distant warmth and curious personality of Horvitz’s music… music that I’ve been fascinated with for decades.  Also worth noting that Horvitz performs on four improvisatory tracks on the album, as well.  The Westerlies’ embrace of the Horvitz songbook was one of my top two recommendations in yesterday’s eMusic Jazz Picks column, and when I say it comes Highly Recommended, I mean that.

This is the statement released on the Wayne Horvitz site regarding the give-away:

In celebration of the release, for one month we are offering a free download of the original tracks that served as inspiration for these new interpretations. The download includes MP3s plus a detailed PDF with information about the original tracks including CD titles, label, personnel and more all in a single, easy to download zip file.

Download that music from the Horvitz site by following this LINK.

And here’s a couple tracks from the Westerlies new album…

I’ll be posting a review of this album in the very near future.

In the meantime, get acquainted with the music of Wayne Horvitz.

Enjoy!
