Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey – “The Return”

Today’s video is from the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, which I accidentally came upon, hm, actually, I can’t even recall how I ended up watching this video.  But I’m glad I did.

One of the conflicts I’ve had since I began this site a little over a year ago is that I’m pretty much full up busy just trying to keep up with music coming out today that I can’t really give the time I want to musicians who put out solid music before the blog went up.  I do, occasionally, run a Safety Net review, which helps, but it’s still not enough.

The Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey (JFJO) is one of those Something Different bands that sneakily slips in adventurous and innovative music in the skin of indie-pop, rock, and folk songs.  They play oddball music that could be mistaken for the stuff of the mainstream.  Well, some of it, at least.  Anyways, they’re one of these bands that I’m just gonna have to find a way to get some reviews of their music up on my site.

For this video, they’re performing the song “The Return,” which appears on their 2010 release Stay Gold.  This live performance was held at the Club B-10 at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Arts on June 26th, 2010.

Your video personnel:  Brian Haas (piano), Josh Raymer (drums), Chris Combs (lap steel guitar), and Jeff Harshbarger (double bass).
