These are videos that I like: The Honey Ear Trio up in lights and Boom Tic Boom on WBGO

Today’s featured videos come courtesy of drummer Allison Miller and two of her working groups.

In case you missed it, yesterday’s column covered three of Miller’s 2016 recordings… all of them excellent, and one in particular belonging to 2016’s best.  Be sure to check that column out (LINK).

The first video is from the Honey Ear Trio, and the song “Silent Stairs,” which can also be heard on their new album Swivel.  Oh, and lights, lots of pretty lights.

Your video personnel:  Allison Miller (drums), Rene Hart (bass, electronics, video) and Jeff Lederer (sax).

And if you want to buy the latest from the Honey Ear Trio (and hear more of it), it’s available at the artist’s Bandcamp page.

The next video is from Miller’s Boom Tic Boom ensemble, which is responsible for the fantastic recording Otis Was a Polar Bear.  This performance happened recently in the WBGO studios and features the song “Shimmer.”

Your video personnel:  Allison Miller (drums), Ben Goldberg (clarinet), Kirk Knuffke (cornet), Jenny Scheinman (violin), and Todd Sickafoose (upright bass) and Myra Melford (piano).

And if you want to purchase that album, it’s available at Amazon.
