The Round-up: eMusic’s 17 Dots

As many of you know, I make weekly contributions to eMusic’s 17 Dots blog, mostly just cool videos and new release notifications.  Anyways, here’s a summary of some of those recent posts, links included.

Let’s begin…

  • Watch a video of the new release by Donny McCaslin.  He covers a song by electronica act Boards of Canada.  Link-> HERE.
  • The trio of Sunna Gunnlaugs, Scott McLemore, and Eivind Opsvik are offering a free previously-unreleased track on their Soundcloud page.  The tune is called “Icelandic Popsong.”  Link-> HERE.
  • Jazz has a strong history of taking music standards and pop songs, and by reconstructing them as jazz compositions, illustrating facets and possibilities that the original composers, perhaps, hadn’t imagined.  In this 17 Dots post, I point out two versions of Neil Young’s “The Needle and the Damage Done,” as performed by Jonah Parzen-Johnson in one version and Todd Clouser in another.  Video is embedded to give a listen.  Link-> HERE.
