These are videos that I like: Hekselman-Klampanis-Ravitz in “Across the Universe”

Today’s featured video has plenty of things I like.  One, it’s got a trio of musicians of whom I’ve had many nice things to say over the years… guitarist Gilad Hekselman, bassist Petros Klampanis and drummer Ziv Ravitz.  Two, they show how jazz musicians are able to create insightful new takes of existing pop songs… which they do with the Beatles’ “Across the Universe.”  And three, trains.  As anybody who follows this site knows, if there’s a train in your video, you’re probably gonna get a feature slot.

The trio has begun a new project called “Across the Rooftop,” dedicated to the Beatles songbook, and, apparently the songs are performed on a rooftop location.  This, actually, isn’t entirely unforeseen, as this site featured not long ago a video from Hekselman, who performed a song from his recent release Homes on a rooftop locale.  Maybe the same one.  Dunno.

But here’s that nifty video…

Your video personnel:  Gilad Hekselman (guitar), Petros Klampanis (bass) and Ziv Ravitz (drums).
