Gary Burton & Julian Lage – “Tiny Desk Concert” at NPR Studios

Today’s video is of Gary Burton and Julian Lage, performing at NPR Studios, for their Tiny Desk Concert series.  If you’re unfamiliar with the series, musicians come in and play in the NPR offices, at the desk of All Songs Considered host, Bob Boilen (the creator of the series).  The sessions often have an irresistible laid-back intimacy, and evocative bursts of creativity seem to possess a greater resonance as a result of that intimacy.  A great series, covering all types of genres, and definitely worth checking out on the NPR site (linked to above).

Burton is one of the modern Jazz giants, having helped shape the sound of Jazz into new and electrifying expressions.  Lage is part of a new generation of jazz musicians helping shape the artform.  Together, they are part of the quartet that recorded Burton’s new release Guided Tour.  I’m posting this video as a teaser to my review of Guided Tour, which will publish tomorrow.

Your video personnel:  Gary Burton (vibes) and Julian Lage (guitar).
